How to choose wedding catering? 7 things worth paying attention to

Published

Food is one of the things guests remember longest from a wedding. Good catering lifts the whole reception - poor catering is remembered for years too. Here are 7 points worth checking before you decide.

1. A tasting before signing

This is essential. A reputable company will happily offer a tasting of selected dishes so you can judge flavour, portion size and presentation. Avoiding a tasting is a red flag.

2. Menu flexibility

Every couple has a different vision. Check whether the menu can be adjusted: swap a dish, add vegetarian, vegan or gluten-free options, include kids' meals. Good catering builds the menu around you, not the other way round.

  • Can I combine dishes from different packages?
  • How many main course options per guest?
  • How do you handle allergies and special diets?

Food should not only taste great, it should also fit the character of the event.

3. Experience and past work

Ask for photos from previous weddings and references. A company with dozens of events knows how to plan service and handle logistics for 100+ guests.

4. Waiting staff

Ask directly: how many waiters per number of guests? The standard is roughly one waiter per 15-20 people for plated service.

5. What exactly is in the price

Make sure the quote covers tableware, linens, transport, setup and cleanup. Ask for an itemised quote - transparency means the company is not hiding costs.

6. Logistics and venue

Outdoors or in a hall without a kitchen, the caterer needs equipment to serve hot dishes at the right temperature. We serve Bydgoszcz and events within 15 km of the city - we arrive with full equipment.

7. A written contract

Date, menu, number of guests, service hours, cancellation terms and deposit - all of it should be in the contract.
